General Apartments are located in St. Petersburg at 13 Nevsky Prospekt, 300 meters from Palace Square. The entrance to the front door is from Bolshaya Morskaya Street. This is a two-bedroom apartment with windows facing the courtyard, so the apartment is very quiet. The apartments have a fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher and microwave, and a bathroom and toilet. There are 2 widescreen satellite TVs. House No. 13, in the style of classicism, is one of the few that has survived without rebuilding, almost in the form in which it was built in 1804-1806. The architect is V.I. Beretti.
This beautiful house belonged to the Chaplin brothers Grigory Fedorovich and Stepan Fedorovich. Immediately after the construction of house No. 13, the Chaplins opened a tea shop there. By the early 1810s, they had become the richest tea merchants in Russia. At the same time, the Chaplins traded in furs from the Kamchatka and American colonies. This family has owned the building for about 70 years. The apartments of Stepan and Grigory Chaplin were located next to the store on the ground floor. Premises on the upper floors were rented out, usually at a very high price.

In 1867-1868 Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky rented a room here. He settled in the Chaplins’ house with his brother Filaret and his family. During this time Mussorgsky wrote “Eremushka”, “Orphan”, “Lullaby”.

Alexander Griboyedov stayed in this house.

Since September 2001, the Bookvoed store, the second store of this retail chain in St. Petersburg, has continued the tradition of booksellers in the Chaplins’ house.
